Arthur W. Anderson, PH.D


Throughout his professional career, Dr. Arthur W. Anderson has distinguished himself as a devoted family man educator and community leader. Born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, he has one sister. Arthur relocated to South Florida after periods of residing in Michigan and New York. His marriage to Dr. Mildred Singleton Anderson provided a blending of families resulting in six beautiful children and three grandchildren. Mildred went home to be with the Lord on Thanksgiving Day, 2016. She will be long remembered for her dynamic and loving personality, the many international medical missions she led and the healthy life style education programs implemented in Palm Beach County. She was ophthalmologist to Ms. Rosa Parks. Mildred is observing with joy the recognition that Arthur is to receive on this occasion.

A brief biographical overview for Dr. Arthur Anderson is to be presented.

Dr. Anderson was elected Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections August 2004 and assumed office January, 2005. In so doing, he became the first African-American elected to a Constitutional Office in Palm Beach County other than judgeships. Also he was the first black male to be elected on a countywide basis as Supervisor of Elections in the State of Florida.

Other firsts in Dr. Anderson's professional career include being the first African -American to receive Distinguished Professor recognition in the Florida Atlantic University College of Education, serve as Chairman of the Palm Beach County School Board, serve on the Florida Post-Secondary Education Board which developed The Florida Prepaid College Tuition Program, be elected county-wide to two different offices in Palm Beach County, etc.

He provided the leadership that resulted in development of the first Competency-based

Teacher Education Program approved for implementation in the State of New York.

Dr. Anderson has provided consulting services to private and public sector organizations on an international level to promote operational efficiencies, community development, and governmental relations.

He was a founder of the Florida-Africa Trade Development Council and participated in business development in Ghana, Zaire (now the Congo), Liberia, South Africa and Brazil.

Dr. Anderson's many charitable and community service contributions include the founding of

"Mission to Liberia" through which the organization established a trade and agricultural training school in the interior part of Liberia, West Africa which greeted some 200 students on opening day.
