Robert Shultz Obituary

Robert Edward (Bobby) Shultz, the first-born child to Charles and June (Luzier) Shultz, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026. He was born September 10th, 1945, in Arthurdale, West Virginia, a historic New Deal community where his grandparents were original homesteaders. The family soon moved to Akron, Ohio, where he grew up as the oldest of 5 siblings. Bobby graduated from Garfield High School in 1963. While living in Akron he worked as a journeyman electrician with IBEW Local 306 while helping raise stepsons Matt and Beau Sloan. He was an avid sportsman, coach and fan who enjoyed sailing, soccer, tennis, softball, and basketball throughout his life. Bobby entered college at the age of 44. He graduated from the University of Akron's honors program which opened the door to a life-altering career opportunity with the U.S. State Department. His career took him around the world, including stints in Brazil, Bolivia, India, Pakistan, Portugal, Nicaragua, and Nepal. Bobby's love of music and community led him to form bands wherever he was stationed. He created beautiful soulful music that earned him the nickname Sweet Bobby Blue. Bobby’s life was rich in adventure and meaningful relationships from his travels that lasted despite time and distance apart. After retirement, he and his wife, Valeria, and stepdaughter Priscila settled in Boynton Beach, Florida, where they shared many new experiences, the most joyful being the birth of grandson, Miles James Hanning, born in 2023. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and June (Luzier) Shultz. He leaves behind wife Valeria, stepdaughter Priscila (Chris) Hanning, grandson Miles Hanning, stepsons Matt (Larissa) Sloan and Beau (Carrie) Sloan, sisters Marleen Augustine and Janet (Tom) Machak, brothers Ron Shultz and Don (Peggy) Shultz, nieces and nephews Sarah (Tim) Jones, Joe (Lindsey) Machak, Darren (Erika) Shultz, Kaitlin (Luke) Shultz-Null, Kelli (Jake) Deluca and Drew (Arica) Shultz.
